Is it preparation or is it luck?
In 2019, my wife and I closed our brick & mortar shop, to focus on establishing a stronger online presence in a rapidly changing retail environment.
2020 was the year of Shopify as COVID19 became a reality and many consumers turned to online shopping as a way of buying goods.
2021 rolled in and by this point we made the decision to close our e-commerce store after about 10+ years in operation, having a ‘strong feeling’ that by pivoting, we could build a more refined and sustainable business for a post COVID world. A few days after making the BIG the decision to close our Shopify online store, Shopify reached out and offered a really cool opportunity for me to become one of their YouTube Channel Hosts!
Is it preparation or is it luck?
Many would argue that there is no way to plan the series of events that happen throughout our lives... the truth is, they would be right.
So does that mean it’s just pure luck?
Well, let’s pretend there was such thing as luck. Who does luck choose to shower it’s favour upon? And why? And where was that same luck when I ended up taking the wrong exit on the highway and sitting in traffic for an extra 15 minutes? Or, where was luck when I accidentally pulled a muscle in my back this past week that has me in excruciating pain for the past few days 🤔 Personally, I don’t believe in luck, but if I did my best guess is that luck would choose to come to those who stay in a place or mindset of preparation. Everything we do or don’t do is preparing the next steps of our lives, whether we’re aware of it or not.
If I believed in luck, I’d say that good luck comes to those with good preparation and bad luck comes to those with bad preparation. IMO (In my opinion.)
But again, I don’t believe in luck or I definitely wouldn't call it luck... I prefer to see it as some good ol' day to day preparation. Some people, can build their resume in an hour 👍 others may take them a week 👏 I’ve been 'building' my resume for the last 10 years 😅 but this preparation has made it a lot easier to land the right opportunities today. Instead of looking at our successes and failures individually, it would help to see them as a collective effort, a bigger picture a major preparation for what’s to come!
Yet still, the old saying does happen to some - "The right place at the right time." But what if you're at the right place at the right time but unprepared? Hmph. #Foodforthought I guess.
What’s your thought about luck? Do you believe it or not so much? I’d love to read it in the comments below or drop a four leaf clover at least!
