You feel it right? The world is upside down. So what does this mean for entrepreneurs like you who are trying to build a business?
Or how does this impact professionals like yourself who are steadily building their corporate careers?
Simple answer: Unfortunately there is no simple answer. But here are 3 critical mindset shifts that you should consider to maintain your sanity and motivation in an economy of chaos.
Don't build a business
What the heck right? Seriously though..
Don't focus all your effort on building a business, instead give your absolute best effort to building an incredible life.
An incredible life is a much deeper representation of who you really are and what you're hoping to achieve during your unpredictable time on this planet.
Love water? Craft a life around boats and marine activities. If you have to call it a business, then do that. What ever floats your boat! (I had to) You love crochet? Find the association, join the community, engage and find ways to give value. This will make you so freaking happy, you're going to wonder how you lived any other way.
At this point you might be thinking, "Ok Daniel... thanks for the magical dreams and unicorns, but in real life we have bills to pay." You're absolutely right and so do I, but when I look back at 90% of the bills I have to pay, they are based on decisions I made while trying to build a business or "make it."
Business should be a small puzzle piece that you fit in to the bigger picture of the life you're creating for you and your loved ones.
The longer you delay living to just survive, the more survival takes over your life.
So don't build a business, build a life.
If your primary focus is building a business in a fragile economy that can drastically change based on the next CBC news flash, then the risk is not worth the reward.
2. Don't build a career
You get where I'm going with this by now. If you're working 9-5 or in a corporate job, stop putting all your energy into climbing the ladder. As Solopreneur Justin Welsh said, "many people climb the corporate ladder only to be disappointed at what they find at the top."
Solution: Focus on building your self.
Personal development should be the primary focus of your work life. Sounds selfish but it's true. If there's one area of your life you need to be selfish in, it this: your personal growth and development. Why you ask? Because you at your best benefits EVERYONE ELSE around you!
Flight crews understand this perfectly when they tell us, "In the event of an emergency fasten YOUR oxygen mask on before assisting anyone else. You can't help someone else when you've passed out.
"Building a career will make you a living, building yourself will make you a fortune."
- Jim Rohn.
3. Look at something invisible
Haha, now you're thinking Daniel's totally lost it!
Wait! before you call the asylum on me, let me explain.
When the world is going crazy, we look at the news and the media and we see: suffering, violence, sorrow, outrage and knowingly or unknowingly we become apart of the chaos.
It highjacks our conversations, our thoughts and our minds and it's very difficult to see or think of anything else.
Solution: Find a quiet place (backyard, beach, park bench) anywhere you can just grab a moment of peace, sit there with a cup of tea and just take notice of the things you can't see. The wind rustling the trees, the birds and their gossip, the distant laughter of children playing, the sound of the water...
I GUARANTEE YOU, that you're mind and your thoughts will recalibrate, rejuvenate and you'll find so much clarity about what's really important in this life. I'm so sure that this will benefit you, that if i'm wrong... I'll pay for the tea ;)
Hey at the end of the day I just want you and me to live the absolute best life we can and so I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to hear me out.
If you think someone else might benefit from these tips/ perspectives please share it with them so together we can navigate this unpredictable world.
Love you all,
Dan
